I love to write about the free samples from PETA because they are always so crazy. This time PETA is saying don’t chain up your dog. So apparently we can’t chain up our dog outside. Well then PETA how do I prevent my dog from running away? With this free sample they say “When chained dogs bark, it is really a cry for help, and if they stop barking, it just means that they have given up all hope of being rescued.” I’m sure we can agree this can be wrong if it’s the dead of winter and they’ve been out there for hours. But during a normal day? What do you think, has PETA gone too far?

There is plenty of evidence that being chained increases a dogs stress, causes aggression, and can be deadly. Chained dogs can become wrapped around objects and get tangled up so that they cannot reach food, water, or shelter, and sometimes the chain itself can knock over their water. It’s ok to chain your dog for a short amount of time if you are present, but it is just unsafe and irresponsible to leave a chained dog unattended.
